A necessary precaution in selection of pumps for parallel operations is that

  1. $\text{H-Q}$ characteristics of both should be identical
  2. Both pumps should be centrifugal type
  3. Both pumps should be identical
  4. There should not be change from positive to negative slope in H-Q curve
